Nicole L. Garton has been a lawyer since 2001 and the principal of a boutique law firm in West Vancouver since 2005, focusing on wills and estates and family law matters.
Nicole co-founded Heritage Trust with Brian Dougherty, B.Comm., CPA, CA. Incorporated under the Financial Institutions Act (British Columbia), Heritage Trust is a privately owned, non-deposit taking, independent trust company with no affiliation to big banks or investment firms.
Nicole has many years of experience advising on all aspects of estate planning and administration, including wills, powers of attorney and trusts, as well as applications for probate and letters of administration. In her role as a lawyer with Heritage Law, Nicole is the current Chair of the Canadian Bar Association Wills and Trusts Subsection (Vancouver).
Nicole received a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of British Columbia and was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 2001. Nicole is currently completing her Masters of Law at Osgoode Law School, focussing on dispute resolution for family businesses. Nicole is a member the Society of Estate and Trust Practitioners (STEP) and the Estate Planning Council of BC. Nicole volunteers with a number of community non-profit organizations and is a recipient of the Business in Vancouver “Top Forty Under 40 Award.”
